Agilent IDP-3 Dry Scroll Pump provides clean, quiet, and reliable GC/MSD analysis
Paul Tripp, Agilent Product Manager for MS Supplies
The recent introduction of the Agilent IDP-3 Dry Scroll Pump has helped many customers move to an oil-free laboratory. As discussed in a previous Access Agilent eNewletter, a critical component of any GC/MS instrument is the vacuum system. Many of the issues surrounding oil pump maintenance—like leaks, disposal costs, mess, and safety concerns—are eliminated using this unique, oil-free solution.
Clean, hassle-free maintenance with oil-free vacuum
The number one complaint of GC/MSD customers around the world is oil pump leakage. The patented technology of the Agilent IDP-3 Dry Scroll Pump creates an oil-free vacuum using a simple dual scroll mechanism. General maintenance only requires replacement of two tip seals and a single o-ring. This simple, clean maintenance procedure can be easily accomplished in less than 30 minutes by anyone possessing modest mechanical skills.
Easy integration with many existing GC/MSD systems
The Agilent Dry Scroll Pump line has been improved and qualified to provide the optimal solution for labs using existing Agilent 5977, 5975, and 5973 GC/MSD systems (Figure 1). Featuring a small footprint, low weight, and low power requirements, the Agilent IDP-3 Dry Scroll Pump easily adapts to your system design.
Replace troublesome oil pumps with quick-to-install conversion kit
With the Agilent G6696A Kit, you have everything you need to go oil-free. The IDP-3 Dry Scroll Pump is fully customer installable and ships with everything you need to replace troublesome oil-based rotary vane pumps.
A detailed Customer Installation Guide is shipped with each unit. Localized versions of the installation guide are available online. In addition, the entire installation process has been documented in an easy to follow video that highlights the benefits of the IDP-3.
The comprehensive installation kit also includes a 24 Volt Power Supply for direct connection to the MSD (Figure 2). This eliminates the need to order country specific voltage, making ordering even simpler.
Each Agilent G6696A kit ships with the correct fittings for all versions of Agilent GC/MSD systems including 5977, 5975, and 5973. Use of the fittings with the included new vacuum tube will help to remove any oil contamination from the previous rotary vane pump.
