Accurate Detection of Metals in Water and Wastes

US EPA methods 200.7 and 200.8 are used for testing of metals and trace elements in water and wastes by ICP-AES and ICP-MS, respectively. In many environmental labs running EPA 200.7, ICP-OES is a well-established technique for the analysis of metals in water samples. Agilent supplies a range of ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and AA instrumentation, consumables, and expert services that deliver the performance required to meet the standards demanded by EPA methods 200.7 and 200.8.

Ultrafast ICP-OES Determination of Trace Elements in Water as per US EPA 200.7

In this application note, the Agilent 5100 SVDV ICP-OES is applied to the ultrafast analysis of trace elements in water certified reference materials (CRMs) according to EPA 200.7. In a single run, excellent method detection limits in the ppb range can be determined for all elements analyzed. The 5100 SVDV ICP-OES enhances sample throughput by taking a single reading of the vertical plasma for all wavelengths, giving accelerated analysis times and reduced gas consumption to maximize cost savings for the lab while increasing throughput.

High-Throughput Water Analysis using Agilent ICP-MS Coupled with ESI prepFAST

Many labs use the long-established US EPA method 200.8 for guidance on the analysis of groundwater, surface water, drinking water, and wastewater by ICP-MS. This application note presents a method using the Agilent 7900 ICP-MS combined with Elemental Scientific’s (ESI) prepFAST M5 autodilution system for the rapid analysis of drinking and bottled water samples, in accordance with EPA 200.8. Recoveries of metals and trace elements either meet or exceed method 200.8 criteria.

Trace Metals in Water Samples using Agilent 5000 Series ICP-OES Systems

ICP-OES is regularly used as an analysis technique in environmental labs running US EPA methods, including EPA 200.7. This consumable workflow ordering guide provides a list of standards and supplies recommended for running EPA 200.7 on the Agilent 5900 ICP-OES. The 5900 ICP-OES captures both axial and radial views in a single reading, giving faster analysis of water samples and reduced argon consumption compared with conventional dual-view (DV) instruments.
