Polarizer and Depolarizer Accessories for UV-Vis & UV-Vis-NIR
Polarizer and depolarizer accessories control the plane polarization of the light beam in a spectrophotometer. The unpolarized light emitted by the spectrophotometer's lamp is partially polarized by the instrument optics when it reaches the sample. The selected spectral bandwidth, and photomultiplier used, will also affect the polarizing characteristics of a spectrophotometer.
The polarizer is a wire grid, mounted in a slide with dial, designed for Cary 60, 3500 Flexible, 4000, 5000, 6000i, and 7000 UV-Vis and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometers. The depolarizer consists of two crystalline quartz wedges, assembled so that the crystal axes are at 45 degrees.
